Ramotse Primary School in Luka village near Rustenburg was burnt down on Saturday midnight, 12 February 2022.
North West Education Spokesperson Elias Malindi said the cause of the fire is still unknown but the school community suspect that it was criminal activities. “The fire destroyed a computer lab with 40 computers, photocopiers, printers, and a Mathematics lab”. Malindi added that the food storage for learners was destroyed by the fire.
The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela condemned in the strongest terms the alleged burning of the school. “Such incidents are targeted at delaying the provisioning of education to an African child. We wish the full might of the law to find those responsible and send them to jail where they belong”.
The school has opened a case of arson with the local police station.
