A 34-year-old former Madibeng Municipality employee will appear before the Pretoria Specialised Magistrate’s court on Monday, 14 February 2022 where he will be facing seventeen counts of fraud.

He was arrested by the Hawks’ Commercial Crime Investigation in Pretoria on Friday 11 February 2022 for alleged fraud.

North West Hawks spokesperson Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso said the suspect is allegedly linked to a case of fraud worth approximately R30 million where a Brits based attorney Gerard Jacques du Plessis  (55) was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in 2019.

“The suspect allegedly connived with du Plessis who was hired by the Brits mall to handle municipal payments on behalf of the mall from February 2017.” Instead of making the payments as agreed, du Plessis allegedly pocketed the money and supplied fictitious receipts to the manager of the mall.
