The Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday sentenced Ziningi Jane Nzama (49) to 20 years in jail for premeditated murder and fraud. Her sentence came after she pleaded guilty to the charges on 24 January 2022.
On April 2021 at 10:00, the body of Asanda Kwanda Nzama (20) was found inside a house at Esikhelekehleni in Inchanga with gunshot wounds to the head and body.
Colonel Nqobile Gwala of KwaZulu-Natal Police said Nzama was declared dead on the scene. “After an intensive investigation, the accused was arrested on 11 December 2021 for the premeditated murder of her son.”
Colonel Gwala said two more accused Simphiwe Silangwe (29) and Mthokoziseni Majozi (49) were also placed under arrest for charges of premeditated murder and fraud. “During the course of the investigation, it emerged that the deceased was killed due to insurance policies that were taken under his name by the accused.”
The matter regarding the two accused is adjourned to 24 February 2022 in the Camperdown Magistrates Court. The accused are in custody.
