The Bethal Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga sentenced Leeroy Raymond Smith (33), to an additional 18 years in prison following a plea agreement. Smith is already serving a life term imprisonment.

Captain Lloyd Ramovha said Smith was arrested in 2016, following a search and seizure operation at his house in Bethal where five unlicensed firearms, ammunition, police uniforms and uncut diamonds were seized. “At the time of arrest, Smith was out on bail for a murder case committed in Newlands East during March 2015.”

The court has however ordered that the six years of the eighteen be suspended for five years. The latest sentence is in addition to the life sentence given to Smith on a murder case.
