Suspects arrested for allegedly stealing copper cables

The police with the help of community members resulted in the arrest of three suspects for alleged theft of copper cables in Ga-Magongoa village in the Mashashane policing area outside Seshego on Wednesday.

The suspects are allegedly a group of criminals that have been tormenting communities in and around this area following several reported cases of theft of copper cables and vandalism.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the police received a tip-off from the community members about the existence of these suspects and quickly reacted. “One suspect was found in possession of copper cables to the street value of approximately R3000,00 and a bolt cutter.”

Mojapelo further said investigations were conducted which led to the arrest of two more suspects for attempted theft of cable.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe thanked the community for working with the police in the fight against crime.

The suspects aged between 26 and 30 are expected to appear in Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 28 January 2022 on charges of possession of suspected stolen properties and damage to infrastructure.
