ANC Nkangala Region shocked by the arrest of a councillor for the alleged murder

The African National Congress (ANC) in Nkangala Region says it is shocked and dismayed by the charging and arrest of one of its councillors in Victor Khanye Local Municipality. This, in connection with the alleged murder of a bouncer on the 16th of January 2022 in a local tavern.

Councillor Moses Mofomme has been reportedly arrested with other three male suspects and detained on 17 January 2022. They have since appeared at Delmas Magistrate Court on 18 January 2022 and the matter is postponed to the 24 of January 2022 for bail application.

ANC Regional Spokesperson Sello Matshoga said the ANC believes in the due process of the rule of law and has confidence in the criminal justice system. “More importantly, the ANC is calling upon all our members to co-operate with the law enforcement agencies in this matter.”

Matshoga said whilst the principle of innocent until proven guilty is acknowledged in a democratic society,the ANC believes that the allegations are extremely serious and will be treated with the attention they deserve.
