Five alleged armed robbers arrested

The five suspects aged between 35 and 44 are expected to appear in Graskop Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 January 2022 for attempted murder, possession of unlawful firearms and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen firearm and properties.

They were arrested for the alleged business robbery which took place in Burgersfort on Saturday, 15 January 2022. The armed suspects travelling in two motor vehicles robbed a Supermarket an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

Limpopo Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said members of the Burgersfort Tactical Response Teams (TRT) were informed. “Information was received that the suspects took the direction of Graskop area in the Mpumalanga Province. One of the vehicles, Toyota bakkie with two occupants was spotted in this area and the suspects attempted to evade the arrest but the members gave chase and succeeded in apprehending them.”

Motlalefa said during the arrest, an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the one robbed, a 9mm pistol with live rounds of ammunition were confiscated.

“While the police were busy effecting arrest, other suspects driving in a VW Golf allegedly passed at a high speed. A car chase ensued and the suspects reportedly opened fire on the police officials who then responded with fire.”

The three suspects were arrested and two 9mm pistols and live rounds of ammunition,money, cellphones and cigarettes were recovered.
