Seventeen people died in the horrific accident when the bus collided head-on with a Toyota SUV that allegedly had a tyre burst near Mookgophong off-ramp on Tuesday.The 22-seater bus was travelling to Polokwane at the time of the accident.
Mike Maringa of Limpopo Department of Transport said the deceased include drivers of both vehicles. “The names of the people in the bus have now been sourced from the register populated before they left Bosman station to Polokwane.”
Maringa added that their identities are still withheld pending investigations and to inform their next of kin. “Six of the eight people who were admitted at F H Odendaal Hospital have since been checked and discharged. The deceased were taken to forensic mortuaries in Belabela and Mokopane.”
The preliminary investigations are citing tyre burst as a possible cause of the accident and investigations are continuing. “A case of culpable homicide has been opened.”
