Two suspects, Ayanda Kekana (50) and Fortune Kambule Ndlovu (36) who were arrested in December 2021 in connection with the kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday,07 January 2022. They appeared for the first time at the same court on 7 December 2021 where their bail application was denied.
Maha Qassim was snatched outside her school yard in November 2021. She was rescued on Tuesday, 04 January 2022, during an Intelligence-led operation.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda said members of the Crime Intelligence Anti-Kidnapping Task Team, assisted by the Johannesburg Flying Squad pounced on a house in Devland, Soweto around midnight. “The girl was rescued unharmed and was taken to a medical facility for medical examination. She has since been reunited with her family.” The suspects who were at the house escaped.
Netshiunda added that another suspect, a 40-year-old man was arrested in Mozambique on Friday, 31 December 2021 and Interpol is busy with the extradition process. Police investigations continue.
