Police Constable released on a warning

A 29-year-old police constable, Lunga Mmola stationed at Mbalenhle Detective appeared before the Evander Magistrates Court on Thursday facing a corruption charge.

Mmola was arrested after the Hawks received information about a police officer who demanded a R2000 bribe from the suspect who was facing a charge of assaulting his wife.

Captain Dineo Sekgotodi of Mpumalanga Hawks said an intelligence-driven undercover operation was conducted by members of Serious Commercial Crime Investigation based in Secunda.

“The suspect was arrested immediately after receiving the money from the undercover agent. He was charged and detained pending his court appearance.”

Constable Mmola was released on a warning and the case is postponed to 1 February 2020 for further investigation.
