An incident seen on social media of a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer wanting to conduct a breathalyser test on a driver while he himself was not wearing a mask will be investigated internally.

The driver and his wife are seen communicating with the officer, wanting to know why the officer first blew into the passive breathalyser, then wanting to test the driver. “Was he not concerned of contaminating the breathalyser or contracting Covid-19?”Asked JMPD Spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

He added that the officer’s behaviour is not professional and his conduct is unbecoming, by him putting his head into the couple’s car window without wearing a mask. “His reflective jacket was not tied and he did not behave in a manner which is befitting to the law enforcement profession.”
