The police officers from the Drug and Firearm Unit in KwaZulu-Natal embarked on an operation as part of our Safer Festive Season Operations in Durban and surrounding areas on Monday.

They had received information about drugs that were retained in a building on Anton Lembede Street.

Captain Nqobile Gwala of KwaZulu-Natal police said the team proceeded to the identified apartment where they found 2.1 million empty capsules sealed in clear plastic bags and heroin powder. “The capsules were destined for packing and distribution of heroin in the Durban Metro area.”

The recovered drugs have an estimated value of R400 000. The police are still searching for the suspects. Gwala added that disruptive operations are still ongoing and the community in the province should expect more police visibility.
