A 37-year-old man is due to appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 December 2021. The truck, which is worth about R3.5 Million was confiscated as it was reportedly used in the commission of crime.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday evening, 11 December 2021 after being reportedly found in possession of illicit sneakers to the value of about R3.8 Million which are alleged to have been smuggled into South Africa through the Lebombo Border by the suspect.
Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said reports indicate that members of the SAPS from Lebombo Border were on duty on the said day when they noticed a suspicious truck driven by a certain man.
“The truck was coming from Mozambique into the country and the members then conducted a search where they discovered various brands of sneakers starched inside. The man, who is a Zimbabwean National was then arrested and charged for possession of counterfeit goods.”
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has welcomed the man’s arrest as well as the seizure of the illicit items and the confiscation of the vehicle. The General further commended the members for their vigilance which shows that the Safer Festival Season Operation is yielding positive results.
