The Barberton Magistrate Court on Wednesday, remanded Lifa Blessing Nkosi (42), a former ANC councillor in custody for two counts of murder.
He was arrested on Tuesday, 16 November 2021 by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation based in Nelspruit, Provincial Tracking Team, Barberton Detective Services and Flying Squad.
Captain Dineo Sekgotodi of Mpumalanga hawks said the team followed information about the whereabouts of a wanted suspect linked to the murder of an off-duty police officer, Sergeant Nkosinathi Lucky Ngwenya of Nelspruit police station and his friend, Jaftha Mnisi (35) at Zanni tavern in Barberton.
“The incident was brought to the attention of the authorities. Upon arrival at the scene, SAPS members and the paramedics, discovered two lifeless bodies of males with multiple gunshot wounds.”
Sekgotodi added that a case with two counts of murder was opened and investigation linked the suspect with the case.
The case is postponed to 25 November 2021 for appointment of Attorney and bail application.
