A 60-year-old man is remanded in custody by the Marikana Magistrate’s Court for the alleged rape of his 16-year-old daughter.
The accused appeared in court on Wednesday, 10 November 2021, following several incidents of sexual assault of his biological daughter. It is alleged that in March 2020, the accused fetched his daughter from the Eastern Cape Province citing that she should come and finish her studies, whilst staying with him.
Captain Sam Tselanyane of North West Police said according to the victim, her father started to sexually assault her sometime in May 2020. “Furthermore, the victim alleges that her father threatened that even if she could tell anyone, there won’t be enough evidence to prove her allegations.”
Tselanyane added that n Tuesday, 2 November 2021, the accused allegedly called the victim to his bedroom as usual, the victim allegedly took her cellular phone into the bedroom to record the incident. “The accused allegedly saw the cellular phone and started questioning the victim, who informed him that she was only searching for the network. Subsequently, the victim managed to record the whole ordeal and thereafter sent the video to her brother in the Eastern Cape.”
Following that, police were informed and a case of rape was registered and the suspect arrested.
He will reappear at the same court on Thursday, 18 November 2021 for a formal bail application.
