Suspects arrested with police uniform

Two suspects aged 35 and 37 are expected to appear in the Melmoth Magistrates Court on Monday, 8 November 2021 for being in possession of stolen property.  They were arrested on Saturday when the police were following up on information regarding possible suspects who were planning to commit robbery in Melmoth.

Captain Nqobile Gwala of KwaZulu-Natal police said during the operation, a vehicle with two occupants was spotted travelling on the R66/R34 Road near Gold Reef Compound in Melmoth. The vehicle was stopped and the occupants were searched. “Upon searching the occupants, a 35-year-old man was found in unlawful possession of a firearm with four rounds of ammunition. The other man aged 37 was found in possession of various pieces of police uniform.”

Gwala added that the suspects will be profiled to check if they are linked to robberies that were committed in Melmoth and surrounding areas.
