The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating a case of death as a result of police action on Friday in Ennerdale

It is alleged that three unknown males went to the shopping complex in Ennerdale and tried to rob Ackermans.

IPID Spokesperson Grace Langa said security personnel noticed and closed the store.”It is alleged the robbers started shooting randomly at the people in the store and community members with the assistance of security ‘s reaction unit started chasing after the suspects and that the suspects were running on foot.”

It is alleged that members of the South African Police Service(SAPS) who were patrolling noticed a group of people running and when they approached the stores, the security officers pointed to them the direction of the suspects.

“It is alleged the police chased after the suspects with a vehicle and tried to block the suspects. The suspects allegedly shot at the police, and took different directions.”

Langa added that one suspect was caught by Community members of Ennerdale and the other suspect tried to hijack a vehicle and the driver knocked him and he was arrested. It is alleged that the third suspect was in a shoot-out with the police. “The police retaliated and he was shot in the chest. The ambulance was called and he was certified dead on the scene. The deceased is unknown.”
