The Inkanyezi Regional Court sentenced Makhosonke Khosilakhe Magubane (32) to life imprisonment for raping an 11-year-old girl.
It is alleged that on 06 October 2019, the victim and her two younger brothers were left alone by the aunt who was looking after them as their parents were working far from home. The victim went to the house of the accused looking for the aunt because she wanted the cellphone so that she can set an alarm to wake up on time for school on the following morning.
Colonel Thembeka Mbele of KwaZulu-Nata police said the accused who was the friend of the aunt, offered to show the girl where her aunt was. “He took her to a house which was under construction in the neighbourhood, assaulted and raped her.”
Mbele further said the victim distracted the accused by telling him that there was a person who was outside the window, when the accused went to the window the victim woke up and ran to her homestead.
“When she arrived at her homestead she tried to tell her aunt but she didn’t take her seriously. The following morning the victim reported the matter to the teachers at school and the police were called.”
A rape case was opened at Eshowe police station and the docket was transferred to Eshowe Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigations. The accused was arrested on 07 October 2019 at his homestead at Umlalazi.
He made several court appearances until he was found guilty and sentenced to life for rape.
