The Police in Westenburg outside Polokwane launched a  manhunt for the suspects who allegedly hijacked a motor vehicle with a 35-year-old woman inside, on Friday night,22 October 2021 at about 22h00. They went on to rape her at Ga-Chuene Leshikishiki, under Lebowakgomo policing area.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the woman was reportedly in the company of a male cousin, travelling to a funeral at Mashashane when their motor vehicle began to overheat. The driver then stopped at Matlala/Mashashane intersection to examine what was the problem.

“Three suspects travelling in a red Toyota Tazz approached, stopped and disembarked from the vehicle, pretending to be wanting to offer some assistance. After they managed to jump-start the vehicle, one of the suspects suddenly pointed a firearm at the victim and got into the said vehicle and drove off, with the woman inside. The remaining suspects also drove off and left the other victim at the scene.”

Motlalefa said the woman was later allegedly raped by the suspect at Ga-Chuene after the hijacked vehicle again experienced a breakdown along the Bergenek/Thogoaneng dirt road. “His accomplices later arrived and also raped the woman. She was found by officials from a vehicle tracking company and was taken to hospital. The incident was reported to the police and a manhunt has already begun.”

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has called on community members to assist the police in tracking down the suspects and bringing them to book. Anyone with information is requested to contact Captain Martin Thema on 082 451 7155.
