The police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit on Thursday held observation on a transaction between two men at Kings Park after receiving information with regards to drug dealing.
KwaZulu-Natal Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said as the police officers approached the men, one of them sped off in his vehicle. “A chase ensued towards Morningside and at the corner of Norwood and Trematon Drive, the suspect collided with another vehicle.”
Naicker added that a man believed to be in his thirties died at the scene and the other motorist was transported to a hospital for medical attention.
A search conducted inside the suspect’s vehicle uncovered drugs such as Methcathinone and Cocaine valued at R5000-00. “The team also seized cash of R1640-00, which is suspected to be the proceeds of the drug trade.” Police have opened a docket for possession of drugs and culpable homicide for further investigation.
