A 44-year-old Boitumelo Motlhabane is expected to make a second appearance in the Molopo Regional Court in Mmabatho on Friday, facing eight counts of theft, one of fraud and another one of money laundering. The crimes were allegedly committed between February and March 2019.

The accused was granted R5000.00 bail upon initial appearance before the Molopo Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 14 October 2021.

North West police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said it is alleged that the accused submitted a claim to the Road Accident Fund (RAF) and another two to the provincial Department of Health on behalf of three of her clients.

“According to information available at this stage, reports suggest that the accused, who was practising as an Attorney, after successfully claiming, paid claimants a fraction of their money, then kept and used the balance amounting to approximately R7 million for her personal gain.”

Mokgwabone added that after soliciting assistance from Fidelity Funds, the victims reported the crimes to the police. “The cases were handed to Provincial Commercial Crime for investigation which led to the arrest.”
