The MEC for Social Development in Limpopo Nkakareng Rakgoale has come out strongly and condemned the murder of a 25-year-old Lebogang Matlou at Mosesetjane, Ga-Kgobudi outside Mokopane, in a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide incident.
Police said the body of Matlou was discovered in the house of her boyfriend by a relative. A 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were subsequently arrested in connection with her murder.
In a separate incident, a 13-year old girl was raped, allegedly by a 74-year old man in Matswale township in Musina.
MEC Rakgoale has described these continuing incidents of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide in the province as “despicable”
She said they wish to see justice taking its course and a lengthy jail term imposed to the pair if found guilty, to serve as a deterrent to would-be abusers of women and children. “GBV remains a concern to the Department and there is a need for concerted efforts to stop the scourge. What is more worrying is that a woman is allegedly involved in the incident reported in the Mokopane area”.
The police are commended for a swift arrest of a 74-year-old man for rape.
Rakgoale is set to visit the Matlou family to extend her heartfelt condolences at Mosesetjane village, Mokgalakwena Municipality, Waterberg District on Tuesday.
