Rape, murder accused to reappear in court

A 25-year-old Petrus Moswea is expected to reappear in the Coligny Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 October 2021, on charges of rape and murder.

Moswea was remanded in custody during an initial court appearance on Wednesday, 13 October 2021. He was arrested on 11 October 2021, after his 70-year-old mother’s lifeless body was found at  Nicolaas farm, outside Coligny on Monday, 11 October 2021.

Captain Aafje Botma of North West Police said according to information received, the accused reported the incident to the police who accompanied him to the scene. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased who was severely assaulted, raped and killed, stayed together with her husband and the accused.” However, the husband was not at the farm at the time of the incident. “After questioning, Moswea admitted to raping and killing his mother. He was then arrested.”

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena condemned the incident and commended members for their dedication that led to the arrest of the accused.
