North West Department of Education investigating assault allegations

The North West Department of Education is investigating allegations of assault that took place at Milner Secondary School in Klerksdorp on Wednesday, 13 October 2021.

It is alleged that after the school assembly around 8 am, the school management noticed that a 17-year-old Grade 10 learner, who was on suspension for other disciplinary issues was seen at school.

North West Education Spokesperson Elias Malindi said when a learner was addressed about his violation of the suspension rule, he quarrelled with the teachers, deputy principal and principal and the situation got physical.

The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela said she has established a team to conduct an intensive immediate investigation on the incident so that appropriate action could be taken. “The principal has been put on a special leave to allow investigations to run smoothly without any interruption”.

Matsemela added that in a meeting held with different stakeholders on Thursday, 14 October 2021, it was agreed that, teaching and learning should resume on Friday 15 October 2021.
