The Mthatha Serious Commercial Specialised Crime Court sentenced Sonwabo Archibald Hermanus (55) for charges of theft of trust funds.
Hermanus was given two years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years provided that he does not commit the same offence during the suspension period.
Captain Yolisa Mgolodela of Eastern Cape Hawks said furthermore, Hermanus was ordered to pay back R1 425 000 to Fidelity Fund over a period of 5 years.
“In 2013, Hermanus claimed an amount of R1.425 million from Road Accident Fund on behalf of different clients. The money was deposited into the Trust Account of Hermanus.He did not pay the clients the full amount which was due to them.”
Claimants lodged the complaint with Mthatha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in June 2017 which resulted in Hermanus’ arrest on 11 May 2018 and made a short appearance at Mthatha Magistrate’s court.
