A 31-year-old suspect will appear in Praktisier Magistrate’s Court on Friday facing a charge of murder. He was arrested on Wednesday,08 September 2021 in connection with the alleged brutal murder of an 11-year-old girl in Shushumela section, Praktisier.
It is alleged that on Tuesday 07 September 2021 at about 15:00 the victim who is from Praktisier township, was playing with other children outside her home when she saw her mother’s ex-boyfriend passing and approached him. The two then left together until it became late prompting the mother to search for the victim.
Limpopo Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the mother was informed by neighbours that the child was last seen leaving with her ex-boyfriend. “She reportedly rushed to his house in Bothashoek, but the suspect denied having information about the child’s whereabouts and even assisted the terrified mother with the searches.”
Mojapelo added that the lifeless body of the child, with visible injuries, was discovered by a community member in the bush on Wednesday, 08 August 2021 at about 10:00 am. The police were informed and swiftly visited the scene.
“Preliminary investigation indicated that the child might have been raped before the murder. Post-moterm will however be conducted to determine how she was killed.”
Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned this incident.
