A 37-year-old Henri Kabamba Kabenga, a Democratic Republic of Congo National appeared in the Vosman Magistrate’s Court on Monday 16 August 2021 facing charges of Fraud.
Kabenga was arrested during a disruptive operation by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Mpumalanga together with the Inspector of Health Profession Council of South Africa(HPCSA) on Friday, 13 August 2021 at Vosman Policing area.
Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi of Mpumalanga Hawks’ said the team reacted to the information that was received about a person who was practising as a doctor without being registered.
“On arrival at the premises used for his practice, an unregistered Doctor was found and the receptionist confirmed that he was the Doctor on duty. A search was conducted and the suspect did not have valid documentation that allowed him to practice as a doctor.”
Sekgotodi added that the accused was arrested for Contravening Section 17(1) (a) of the Health Professions Act 56 of 1974. The charges relate to practising as a Doctor by seeing patients and issuing medicines without being registering with the Health Profession Council of South Africa ( HPCSA).
Kabenga was granted R5000 bail and the case is postponed to 14 September 2021 for further investigation.
