In what is called the original derby between Swallows FC and Orlando Pirates clash on Saturday, Swallows managed to beat the host 2-1 at the Orlando Stadium in the MTN 8 tournament.
The Dube Birds’ Ruzaigh Gamildien’s two fast goals in 22 and 29 minutes of the first half of the game sank the Buccaneers.
Swallows seemed to be having a clear path on the Pirates’ defence in the first half. However, Up The Bucs put more pressure on Swallows’ defence to the point where they received a penalty. The penalty was converted by Kabelo Dlamini.
It came after Swallows’ goalkeeper Virgil Vries was penalised for bringing down Deon Hotto in the box and it was pointed to be a penalty.
Pirates started to have a good shape at the back after the introduction of the captain Happy Jele in the second. But it was not enough for both teams to score in the second half which made the game to end with 2-1.
Other results that played earlier: Golden Arrows beat Supersport 4-3 on the penalties after playing 2 all after extra time.
Swallows and Arrows are through to the MTN 8 Semifinals.
On Sunday’s fixture is Mamelodi Sundowns vs Kaizer Chiefs in Lucas Moripe Stadium at 15:00. AmaZulu vs Cape Town City in Moses Mabhida Stadium at 18:00.
