Suspect to appear in court for the alleged murder of his girlfriend

A 30-year-old man is expected to appear in the Ganyesa Magistrates ‘Court on Tuesday, 10 August 2021, in connection with the alleged murder of his 24-year-old girlfriend.

The suspect was arrested on Friday, 6 August 2021, on a charge of murder. Colonel Amanda Funani of North West Police said according to information received, the couple stayed together at their  RDP house at Bakola Section in Ganyesa. “They argued on Wednesday, evening, 4 August 2021. That was after the suspect allegedly saw his girlfriend drinking and talking to another man at a tavern in Vryburg.”

Colonel Funani added that the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim with a spade leading to her sustaining multiple and grievous bodily injuries. “According to information at our disposal, upon realising that the girlfriend was dead, the suspect covered the former’s body with a blanket and pushed it beneath the bed.”

She further said the suspects fled on Thursday, 5 August 2021, to his brother’s place in Kuruman, Northern Cape.  The suspect allegedly informed his brother about the incident

North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the brutal murder of the young lady who was killed during Women’s Month by someone who was supposed to protect her.
