Duo arrested with fake money

Kanana Police in North West Provine arrested two suspects aged 28 and 49 after they were allegedly found in possession of fake money amounting to R42 400 on Saturday, 7 August 2021. The duo was caught after police received a tip-off about a person who was allegedly seen with fake notes at Kanana Township near Klerksdorp.

Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani said the Police acted swiftly and went to the suspects’ shop to investigate. “Upon arrival, they found two suspects and ultimately searched the shop where they discovered the money.”

Colonel Funaani added that the suspects were arrested after failing to account for the fake notes.

North West Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, thanked members of the community for working together with the police in exposing the suspects as part of cleaning the streets of Kanana.

The two suspects are expected to appear in the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 10 August 2021,  for possession of counterfeit money.
