Petrol Attendant remanded in custody for fraud

The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Friday remanded Moses Lebiga (29) in custody. He is charged with fraud and possession of a card skimming device. Lebiga was arrested by the Hawks’ in Mamelodi East on Thursday, 05 August 2021

Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu of Gauteng Hawks said it is alleged that Lebiga allegedly defrauded clients at the Total petrol station in Mamelodi East when filling up fuel tanks using bank cards in the past months.

“An intelligence-driven operation by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in Pretoria and Fraud Investigators at ABSA and First National Bank (FNB) was conducted following suspicious fraudulent activities reported.”

Mulamu added that during Lebiga’s arrest at the petrol station on Thursday, police seized a card skimming device and scrap paper with PIN numbers on his possession.

The court remanded Lebiga in custody until Friday, 13 August 2021 for address verification and probing any pending criminal charges against him.
