A 34-year-old Modiegi Penina Monamodi appeared before the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday for fraud. The court heard how she allegedly swindled her late aunt’s estate worth approximately R3 million as an executor. Monamodi was arrested on Friday,30 July 2021 and subsequently charged with fraud and forgery.
It is alleged that in August 2018, Monamodi submitted fraudulent and changed documents to the Master of High Court in Gauteng to claim the deceased’s estate as a sole beneficiary.
Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu of Gauteng Hawks said further investigation revealed that Monamodi claimed over R1.5 million in cash and two immovable properties worth approximately R1.5 million combined.
“The deceased, Refiloe Rebecca Monamodi was 54 years old during her untimely death in March 2017, when her daughter brutally murdered her. The court found her guilty of murder and sentenced her to life imprisonment in March 2018.” Explained Mulamu.
Monamodi was granted R5000 bail and the case is postponed to 20 September 2021 for further investigation.
