A 29-year-old suspect is expected to appear in Namakgale Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 02 August 2021 in connection with the alleged gang rape of an 11-year-old girl on Wednesday 28 July 2021 at Majeje village in the Namakgale policing area outside Phalaborwa. Two other suspects are still being sought.
Limpopo Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the victim allegedly came back from school crying, with visible injuries and informed her mother that the suspect, whom she knows together with his two friends, met her on the road and they dragged her to the nearby graveyard. “They then assaulted her and thereafter took turns in raping her. The perpetrators then fled the scene.” Mojapelo said the suspect was arrested on Friday, 30 July 2021 at home in Majeje village.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned these incidents and has ordered that the suspects must be hunted down and brought to book. Police investigations are continuing.
