The African National Congress (ANC) in Ekurhuleni region says it noted the developments around the arrest of the Ward Councilor of Ward 71 on charges of theft and public violence. An ANC ward councillor was arrested on Wednesday following the unrest in the Gauteng earlier this month.

ANC Ekurhuleni Regional Secretary Thembinkosi Nciza said the party in the region strongly condemn any acts of criminality attributable to any leaders and public representatives of the ANC.

”The ANC calls on law enforcement agencies to carry out their work in relation to this matter with the greatest urgency. Given the fact that the Ward Councilor has been formally charged, ANC corrective measures will be implemented as per the ANC Constitution and guidelines on Disciplinary dictates.”

Nciza added that the ANC will immediately develop a contingency leadership and governance plan for the community of Ward 71 whilst the legal matters relating to the Ward Councilor are running their due natural course. “ The ANC in Ekurhuleni re-affirms its stance of denouncing destruction to properly and looting by anyone, including our members in general”.
