Alleged illicit product trader appears in court

Trading in illicit products continues to be a huge problem in South Africa. In the past months, police in North West and Limpopo recovered illicit cigarettes worth millions.

A 31-year-old male suspect is appearing in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Friday 23 July 2021 for allegations of trading in illicit products.

The East London Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in response to whistleblowing, arrested the suspect on 21 July 2021. Eastern Cape Hawks Spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela sadi the team searched Thorn park farm, a residence of the suspect and came to a discovery of illicit tobacco to the street value of R10 million.
