The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating allegations of death as a result of police action which allegedly occurred on Saturday,17 July 2021 at the corner of N2 Highway in Western Cape.
It is alleged that a group of six armed males robbed the butchery and fled with a large undisclosed amount of cash, laptop and a cellphone.
IPID National Spokesperson Ndileka Cola said a few minutes later, the robbers were stopped by Flying Squad (K-9 members). She said suspects ran away whilst shooting at the squad. Members returned fire to the suspects”.
Cola added that the suspects later jumped out of the vehicle they were travelling in and ran into different directions, still shooting at the members.”One of the suspects was fatally shot whilst the other one was injured and is currently in hospital. The other four suspects were arrested.
She further said all the stolen items have been recovered including undisclosed and the team discovered that the vehicle used by the suspects was hijacked in Gugulethu.
