The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in the North West says it is saddened and shocked by the passing away of the Executive Mayor of Matlosana Local Municipality, Maetu Kgaile. She succumbed to Covid-19 complication at the Tshepong Provincial Hospital in Klerksdorp on Friday.
SANCO described Kgaile as a gender activist, consummate public servant, community builder and a courageous leader who had followed in the footsteps of the likes of the iconic intellectual revolutionary Charlotte Maxeke.
SANCO Provincial Chairperson, Paul Sebegoe said that a befitting tribute to Kgaile would strive for unity and organisational renewal to ensure a decisive ANC elections victory in the forthcoming local government elections
Meanwhile, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma said she learned with sadness and a profound sense of sorrow, about the untimely passing of Kgaile.
”As we mourn the tragic passing of our Executive Mayor, let us not forget that we are resilient people and together we will overcome this tragedy and continue doing what the late Mayor dedicated her life to, serving and changing lives of the people.”
Kgaile was elected Executive Mayor of the City of Matlosana in August 2016 following the 6th local government elections. She became the first woman to be elected to this position in Matlosane. Before that, she served as Mayoral Committee Member (MMC) responsible for Local Economic Development.
