South African is still recording a high number of cases where women are killed by their partners. The Police in Kwa KwaZulu-Natal say they are working tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence(GBV) are brought to book and face the full might of the law for their “evil acts”.

On Friday 25 June 2021, Lindokuhle Chiliza (27) appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court facing murder charges.

Thembeka Mbele of Kwa KwaZulu-Natal said on Wednesday, 23 June 2021 at 19h30 Chiliza proceeded to H Section in KwaDabeka where his girlfriend Nondumiso Gumede (24) who is a scholar was residing.

“He had fears that his girlfriend and the mother of his seven-month-old child was having an affair. Chiliza proceeded to a house where the suspected boyfriend was living in. He found both Nondumiso and the assumed boyfriend, Nkosenhle Innocent Ngcobo (27) in the house.”

Mbela added that Chiliza stabbed them several times all over the body. “Nkosenhle ran to the neighbour’s home for assistance. While the neighbours were waiting for transport on the road with the victim, Chiliza emerged and stabbed him and he succumbed to his injuries.”

Nondumiso was transported to the local clinic and she was declared dead on arrival. A double murder case was opened at the KwaDabeka police station for investigation.

The matter was adjourned to 1 July 2021 for a formal bail application.
