The Hawks in Gqeberha with the assistance of Uitenhage Crime Intelligence (CI) arrested a 39-year old suspect on Thursday, 18 June 2021 on allegations of fraud.

It is alleged that between 5 – 7 May 2007, two different vehicles were filled with petrol using a fuel card by the unauthorised suspect, who wanted to get money to fix his alleged drug craving tendencies.

Eastern Cape Hawks Spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said the bank, upon discovering the disparities on claims in terms of mileages and car registration numbers, called the owner of the Showground Motors, a fuel filling station for enquiries in this regard.

“The matter was reported to the Gqeberha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team for further investigation. It was further established that the alleged fraudulent conduct of the suspect prejudiced the bank more than R10 000 in cash”.

The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 21 June 2021.
