A 40- year old Detective Constable Mautla Maluleke from Rietgat Police Station appeared before the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 15 June 2021 on charges of attempted murder and murder. He was arrested by Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) with the assistance of SAPS on Monday,14 June 2021.
IPID Spokesperson Ndileka Cola said it is alleged that on the evening of 8 June 2021, a 32-year-old female constable from Cross Border Policing Unit PSS was at home in Soshanguve, with her 82-year old mother and her six-year-old son, when someone knocked at their door.
“As alleged, the person who was knocking at the door went to the window, fired the gunshots through the window and continued firing random shots inside the house. The victim realised that the person who was firing shots is her ex-lover, her son’s father, Constable Maluleka.
Cola said the woman managed to get hold of her firearm and started firing back towards him. “It is further alleged that Maluleka set the house on fire and ran away from the scene.” The victim sustained a bullet wound whilst her mother died from the gunshot wound.
Maluleke was on the run for about a week .This matter is postponed to 22 June 2021 for a formal bail application.
