The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Services reported that 5,552 news Covid -19 cases have been identified in South Africa.
The majority of cases on Monday, were from Gauteng province(67%), followed by the Western Cape( 8%) and North West 5%.
One hundred and fifty-three more people died of Coronavirus in the country over the last 24 hours, bringing the total deaths to 57, 884. The tests conducted to date is 12 223, 448.
The health department conveyed condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thanked the health workers who treated the deceased.
People are urged to continue adhering to the health protocols put in place: washing hands with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitiser and always maintain social distance.
