President Ramaphosa places Minister Mkhize on special leave

President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday, 08 June 2021 placed Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize on special leave. “This period of special leave will enable the Minister to attend to allegations and investigations concerning contracts between the Department of Health and a service provider, Digital Vibes.”

The Democratic Alliance (DA) on Thursday,3rd of June 2021 laid criminal charges against Minister Mkhize, and the Health Director-General, Dr Sandile Buthelezi, over the R150 million Covid-corruption scandal involving Digital Vibes.

It has been reported that Minister Mkhize personally signed off on the submission that contained other contract to this company ran and owned by close associates of his.

The presidency said the Special Investigating Unit(SIU) is investigating this matter and the President awaits a report on the outcome of this probe.

Minister of Tourism Ms Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane will serve as Acting Minister of Health until further notice.
