A 13-year-old girl was raped and brutally killed and another elderly woman aged 71 was attacked on Sunday night, 06 June 2021 at Joppie Village in the Letsitele policing area.
It is alleged that at around 9 pm, the 58-year old man went to look for his wife at her parents home in the same area, after the couple experienced marital problems.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo of Limpopo Police said upon arrival, the man found his mother in law who informed him that her daughter was not at home.”The suspect reportedly became furious and hacked the elderly woman with a sharp object throughout her body. The deranged man then left and went back home where he entered his neighbour’s house and raped a 13 year old girl before he attacked her with the same weapon.”
Mojapelo said the police and medical emergency services were called.“Both victims were rushed to the local hospital.Sadly, the 13 year girl was certified dead on arrival at the hospital.”
Mojapelo added that the suspect, John Makhubele was later found hanging from the roof top inside the same neighbour’s house.
He further said Police have opened cases of murder, rape, attempted murder and inquest for investigation.The motive for the incident is not clear at this stage but it might be domestic related.
Limpopo Police Commissioner Thembi Hadebe condemned these heinous attacks and called upon members of the community to seek help if confronted with domestic challenges instead of resorting to violence and inhuman acts.
Police investigations are continuing.
