A 45-year-old UMzimvubu Municipality car licensing supervisor is expected to appear at the Mount Frere Magistrates’ Court on Monday,7 June 2021. She was arrested by the Mthatha based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team on Friday, 4 June 2021 for alleged charges of fraud.
Captain Yolisa Mgolodela it is alleged that from 01 July 2019 to 31 March 2020, the suspect whose duty was to receive and deposit money received for licensing of vehicles to the Department of Transport account, failed to do so. “Instead, she used the money for her enrichment. It is reported that the conduct of the suspect prejudiced Umzimvubu municipality cash to the value of more than R122 000.”
Mgolodela added that it is further reported that the suspect took a vacation leave where she had to be substituted by another employee and that is when the discrepancies were discovered.
“ Moreover, the Department of Transport raised its concern about the decline in revenue during the said period. A complaint was lodged with the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team.
The suspect is in custody and will make her first court appearance on Monday.
