72 Covid-19 deaths in South Africa in the last 24 hours

Seventy-two more people died of Coronavirus in South Africa over the last 24 hours, bringing the total deaths to 55 874. Gauteng recorded 7 deaths, Free State 21, Limpopo 13, Northern Cape 6, Western Cape 13, Eastern Cape 6, Mpumalanga 6 and Eastern Cape 6.

The tests conducted to date is 11 378 282. The recovery now stands at 1 541 250 which translates to a 94.1% recovery rate.

The health department conveyed condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thanked the health workers who treated the deceased.

The number of Health Care Workers Vaccinated under the Sisonke programme to date is 479 763. The health department said the total vaccinated Phase Two as of Tuesday 25 May 2021 is 171 860. These vaccinations were with the first dose of Pfizer vaccine.

People are urged to continue adhering to the health protocols put in place: washing hands with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitiser and always maintain social distance.
