Illicit Cigarettes worth R3 Million recovered

The Police in Limpopo arrested 1269 suspects for various offences and recovered millions worth of illicit cigarettes including several other items during the ongoing Intelligence-driven joint operations conducted throughout the past week until Monday 24 May 2021.

The suspects aged between 20 and 62 were arrested for various crimes ranging from murder, robberies, rape, sexual assault and being in possession of stolen property.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe during the arrests, the Police seized 3 517 606 sticks of counterfeit cigarettes, 16 dangerous weapons, 594 grams of dagga and 430 grams of cocaine

The suspects arrested during these operations have already started appearing before various magistrate courts throughout the Province.

Ngoepe added that the fight against illegal hunting has gained the upper hand following the arrest of seven(07) suspects that were intending to poach endangered species in the Hoedspruit policing area outside Phalaborwa under the Mopani District on Tuesday, 18 May 2021.
