One hundred and fifty-one more people died of Coronavirus in South Africa over the last 24 hours, bringing the total deaths to 55 719. Gauteng recorded 20 deaths, Free State 72, Limpopo 17, Northern Cape 15, Western Cape 15, Eastern Cape 6, Mpumalanga 4 and KwaZulu-Natal 2 and Eastern Cape.
The tests conducted to date is 11 281 820. The recovery now stands at 1 534 350 which translates to a 94.2% recovery rate.
The health department conveyed condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thanked the health workers who treated the deceased.
The number of Health Care Workers Vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol to date is 480 665. The health department said the total vaccinated Phase Two as of Friday, 22 May 2021 is 161 717. These vaccinations were with the first dose of Pfizer vaccine.
People are urged to continue adhering to the health protocols put in place: washing hands with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitiser and always maintain social distance.
