The Lichtenburg Magistrates Court in North West postponed the case against a senior National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) prosecutor to 14 July 2021 for further investigations.

A 45-year-old state prosecutor, based in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is charged with statutory rape, sexual exploitation of children, sexual display or causing display of pornography, sexual grooming of children and sexual assault.

The spokesperson for National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in North West, Henry Mamothame said it is alleged that the victim was 15 years of age in 2019 when these offences were committed.

“The state requested the court for a postponement to allow further investigations by the police, as they are expecting more statements from key witnesses. Owing to the seriousness of the case, the NPA has since served the prosecutor with a letter of suspension. “

Mmothame added that the suspect’s bail of R10 000 is extended until his next court appearance.
