A 47-year-old man is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court in North West on Wednesday, 19 May 2021, in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of his two-year-old daughter. The suspect’s court appearance came after the lifeless body of the toddler was found inside the ceiling at his residential place in Alabama near Klerksdorp.
Colonel Amanda Funani of North West Police said according to information at their disposal, on Thursday, 13 May 2021, the suspect went to extension 20, Jouberton at his girlfriend’s place and took their daughter without the consent of the mother.
“It is alleged that the mother was in hospital when the suspect took the child,she was discharged on Friday, 14 May 2021 and started searching for the toddler, but could not find her. On Saturday, 15 May 2021, a case of a missing person was opened at Jouberton Police Station.”
Funani added that investigations led to the arrest of the father on Sunday, 16 May 2021. “He was charged for kidnapping after he failed to tell the police where the child was.”
Colonel Funani further said on Monday, 17 May 2021, the neighbours, smelled a bad odour, coming from the suspect’s house and went to investigate. “It is alleged that the neighbours found the lifeless body of the child and called the police. The father, who was already in custody was then charged with her murder.”
North West Acting Police Commissioner General Dintletse Molefe, thanked the neighbours and community members for working in cooperation with the police. She said the detectives must do everything in their power to oppose bail.
