Five people were killed in a car crash on the R40 road outside Hoedspruit in the Mopani District in the early hours of Sunday,16 May 2021. The driver of a VW Sedan lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and hit a tree.
The Spokesperson for Transport and Community Safety Matome Moremi Taueatsoala said four people were certified dead on the scene and one person was rushed to Tintswalo Hospital but succumbed to the injuries upon arrival. “Preliminary investigations are revealing reckless driving as a possible cause of the accident.”
Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has sent messages of condolences to the families of the victims and once again called on motorists to adhere to traffic rules. The MEC is worried that most fatal accidents recorded in the province are mostly due to reckless driving.
